I had a stratus once go into a skid on ice on a highway at a constant 45 mph and spun too far so, I selected to head for a 180 spin and avoid an oncoming vehicle in reverse. I got r done and the oncoming stopped before getting to me, so, I pulled back on fully and then into the left lane. I wrecked the thing though the next summer in it being a longer vehicle and turned into someone. I like my SUV because it is shorter, yet feel like I sit in front of the windshield. It's not a 4 by 4.
The 4 by 4's aren't much help unless one wheel is on dry pavement. Traveling at 10 mph, that's so short an amount of time, given they transfer force to the wheel with more traction. I won't feel guilty someday if a 4 by 4 gives me a tug, having not bought one yet seen a dozen cars stuck on the interstate in driving from Mt. Vernon to St. Louis during a storm and no 4 by 4's giving them tugs.
