I know, this is a completely new topic but I'm interested in what ya all think about the motor oil you use and if you have ever studied what the oil really is... I never did until today.

My 4 wheeler calls for 10W40 with an API rating of SG or SF. It is hard to find. And I wondered what the heck is so good about this API rating?

After a short study, I found this web site that I thought was pretty interesting.

Let me know what you think!

MOTOR OIL??? Patriot you're posting priveledges will be suspended for 30 days if you continue to post inane subjects such as this. This forum is for bitching, whining, complaining and trashing our enemies secretly who otherwise would open a can of whoop ass on us if they knew our actual identities. Please deep the vein of the forum inviolate. Motor Oil, indeed. P.S. Consumer Reports had an article on the subject of motor oil a few years back and stated that most of the oil, excepting the synthetic, comes from the same spigot. If there is the Starburst" insignia on the can and the grade is compatable with your engine, then there is really no difference. Now motorcycles and four-wheelers may be different because of the rings, seats, valve guides and other things, I don't know. But I do know that I have ridden motorcycles extensively and haven't suffered any damage to the engines by using regular oil. The main purpose of the oil is lubrication of the engine parts, the regular brands seem to fill that purpose.

When you're up to your ass in alligators, it's hard to remember that the original plan was to drain the swamp.
